Philipsburg Sint Maarten

The Port of Philipsburg , located in *Sint Maarten, is one of the busiest in the Caribbean with up to six ships visiting it at the same time. This port is tax-free, so shopping is very popular.

This island is divided in two, Sint Maarten belonging to the Netherlands and Saint Martin belonging to France. Legend has it that the border was decided following a bet between a Frenchman and a Dutchman. The two men are said to have walked along the coast in the opposite direction until they met on the other side of the island to determine the border.

The island has a total population of 77,000 inhabitants.

The taxi boat is the best way to get to Philipsburg. It is possible to walk there (20 minutes walk).
