Shimizu (Mount Fuji) Japan

Shimizu Port is located in the north of the Izu Peninsula. The most notable attraction in the area is Mt Fuji which is 37 kilometers from the port. This dormant volcano last erupted in 1708. Miho no Matsubara is a forest of more than 30,000 pine trees by the sea from where you can have a very beautiful view of Mount Fuji. Tuna fishing, green tea and mandarin cultivation are important economic activities in the region.

Landmarks

Kunozan Toshungo-Shrine

This shrine was built in the early Edo period. The tomb of Shogun Tokugawa leyasu, the unifier of Japan, is located there. The colorful temple is decorated with Japanese lacquer. The temple is accessible by the Nihondaira Ropeway (gondolas) or by 1,159 steps.

Sunpu Castle and Park

Located in the city of Shizuoka, this castle, built in 1585, was partially rebuilt after the fire of 1635. Its main attraction is the Momijiyama Garden with its pond and a mound in honor of Mount Fuji. This is where Tokugawa Ieyasu grew up.

Fujisan Shongu Sengen Taisha Shrine

Built in 806 BCE, at the time of the 11th Emperor of Japan. The shrine is dedicated to the mountain god Asama-no-okami.

Nature

Mont Fuji

Located 37 km from the port, Mount Fuji, which is the highest peak in Japan, is considered a sacred place. This volcano last erupted in 1708. For a view of Mount Fuji, you can head to Miho No Matsubara Beach, the observatory near the Nihondaira Ropeway or take a cruise on Lake Ashi in Hakone National Park.

Miho no Matsubara

On 7 km of beaches, you will find more than 54,000 pine trees and, on a clear day, a nice viewpoint of Mount Fuji.

Hakone National Park

The National Park in which Mount Fuji is located and where you will find five lakes.

Lake Ashi

This lake was formed as a result of an eruption of Mount Fuji 3000 years ago. A cruise on the lake will offer you a beautiful perspective on Mount Fuji.

Shiraito Waterfalls

These 20-meter-high falls that drop from a volcanic rock wall inspired many poets.

S-Pulse Dream Plaza

A 5-minute walk from the port, a Ferris wheel and shops can be found in this amusement park. The Sushi Museum and the Soccer Museum are located in this complex.
