The port of Ravenna is located in the north-east of Italy on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. In Ravenna, considered the mosaic capital of the world, you can see historic buildings decorated with Byzantine mosaic and visit Dante’s tomb.
Located nearby, the city of Bologna is the capital of the region. The historic center of this university town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe.

Now that large ships are no longer tolerated in the center of Venice, some companies use Ravenna as their home port for their cruises. The airports of Venice, Florence and Bologna are nearby. You’ll probably want to take the opportunity to visit Venice or Florence. Otherwise, Bologna airport which is the closest.

Probably built by King Theodoric, this building is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Only the mosaic of the dome is original.
A few steps from Dante’s tomb are the Rasponi crypt and the hanging gardens of the Palazzo della Provincia. Access to the crypt and garden is from the portico on the south side of Piazza San Francesco.
