Where is located the Port of Montevideo Cruise Terminal

The ships dock at the port of Montevideo to the south of the city. The centre of the old town is located a short walk from the port (1.5 km). It will take you about 25 minutes to reach Independence Square.

Mercuado del Puerto is located opposite the port. There are many traditional grill restaurants and craft shops.

Exchange offices are located at the port.

Travelling around the Montevideo Cruise Port

Some cruise lines offer shuttles to Independence Square.

Minibus tours are available at the port exit for about US$20 per person.

Many taxis offering fixed-price routes are accessible from the port.

A Hop on - Hop Off tourist bus tour the city and its main attractions.

Plaza Constitucion

Main square of the old town.

Seat of parliament

The building was built in the early 20th century. The marble building is the seat of parliament. Closed Sundays. Guided tours ($) are offered between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Plaza Independencia

This is the main square of the recent part of the city. In the center, you will see the statue of Jose Gervasio Artigas, a national hero who fought for the country’s independence. A mausoleum is located under the square. You can access it by the stairs. In the past, a citadel was erected on this site. A reproduction of the gate of the citadel testifies to this. The Palacio Salvo borders this square.

Palacio Salvo

This building has 27 floors. It’s an Art Deco building. Its tower is spectacular and it’s possible to climb to the top for a panoramic view of the city ($).

Iglesias Matriz

Montevideo Cathedral was built between 1790 and 1804.

Carnival Museum

Located in front of the port next to the Market.

El Cabildo

This building was formerly the town hall and a prison. It is now a museum showcasing the history and archives of the city.

Torres Garcia Museum

This art museum presents the works of the painter Joaquin Torres Garcia, one of Uruguay’s most important artists and founder of constructivism.

Museo del Gaucho y de la Moneda

You can visit this museum of cowboys and Mint for free.

Museo del Tango

This museum is located on Independence Square retraces the history of Tango in Uruguay.

Located in front of the charming Zabala Square.
