Klaipeda Lithuania

The port of Klaipeda is located on the Akmena-Danë River and gives access to the Baltic Sea. It is the main seaport of Lithuania. Klaipeda is the third largest city in Lithuania.

You will find many historic buildings in the Old Town, while the modern city centre is where you will find a number of shops and restaurants.

Where is located the Port of Klaipeda Cruise Terminal

Your ship will dock at the port of Klaipeda. The Klaipeda cruise terminal is located 100 meters of the city. You can easily reach the historic center of the town on foot.

A tourist information kiosk is located at the port. They offer a map of the city that proposes an itinerary to visit the city. If the kiosk is not open, there is a small box containing the maps in a few languages.

Paid public toilets can be found in several locations throughout the city

An automated ticket office is located on the ferry platform to buy your tickets to reach the Curonian Spit. The ferry is busy on weekends, especially in the afternoon.

Historical sites

Castle of Klaipėda & Museum

The castle was built by the Livonian Order in 1252 and abandoned after the Seven Years’ War. Part of the castle was destroyed in the 1770s. In its ramparts, exhibitions about the history of the castle, the history of the city and the events surrounding the Second World War are on display. Closed on Sunday and Monday.

Sea Museum

An aquarium and shows featuring dolphins are presented at this museum located on the Curonian Spit in front of the old town of Klaipeda. To get there, you can take the passenger ferry from the Old Ferry Terminal. The museum is 1.8 km from where the ferry will leave you. A little tourist train is also available to reach the museum.

Museum of the History of Lithuania Minor

Located in an old Baroque-style house, this museum presents the history of the region since prehistoric times.

Blacksmith’s Museum

This museum is located in the workshop of Gustav Katzke a blacksmith of the turn of the 20th century. Tools and hand-forged items are on display.

Cold War Museum

A museum and the remains of the USSR military base and nuclear missile launch silos can be found at this site on the outskirts of the city.

Clock and Watch Museum

Presents the history of clocks and watchmaking and its evolution over time. Closed on Monday.

Amber Museum

This museum located outside the city has a collection of about 28,000 pieces of amber, of which nearly 4,500 are on display and several of which have insects caught in amber. Jewelry and amber sculptures are also on display.

The Curonian Spit, a UNESCO Natural Site, is a peninsula of sand dunes that runs along the Baltic Sea. To get there, you can take the passenger ferry from the Old Ferry Terminal. There are trails and a huge beach.
