Istanbul Cruise Port, Turkey

Istanbul Cruise Port Turkey

The port of Istanbul is located on the bank of the Golden Horn, a cove of the Bosphorus. Istanbul is a vast and populous city that has the particularity of being located between Europe and Asia. The Bosphorus that connects the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara separates Turkey between its European and Asian parts. The city was called Byzantium during the Byzantine era and later Constantinople, the eastern capital of the Roman Empire. The city officially took the name Istanbul in 1930.

The majority of the sights are in the Sultanahmet district, which is on the opposite bank of the Istanbul Cruise Port. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, aqueducts and several museums are in the same area. Many restaurants and shops can be found in this neighborhood.

On the cruise port side, you will find Dolmabahçe Palace, Galata Tower, Taksim Square, and Istiklal Pedestrian Shopping Street. This area is more frequented by the local population.

When you walk around, be careful with your personal belongings and small scams. For example, if a shoe-shiner drops his brush in front of you, he does so knowingly. If you mention it, it will thank you, try to shine your shoes, but eventually ask for money.

How to get from Istanbul Airport to the Cruise Port

The M11 metro line connects the airport to the city in about 30 minutes (Gayrettepe station). Departures are every 20 minutes. Follow the red “Metro” signs to get there. Once in the center, you can transfer to the M2 line to Taksim station. It’s a 10-minute walk from the port.

Coaches Havaist and the bus system IETT have several routes between the airport and the city’s districts.

Different categories of taxis are also available and those affiliated with the airport’s taxi cooperative adhere to a policy of regulated fares (depending on the comfort: orange, turquoise or black).

Private Transportation is also available and can be booked prior to your departure.

Book your flight to Istanbul.

The public transport system includes buses, river shuttles, funiculars and trams. The Istanbulkart card allows you to pay for access to all these modes of transport as well as to the Metro and public toilets. This can be convenient for longer stays. Otherwise, it is best to pay for each ticket.

To reach the main tourist attractions from the port, the tram is the ideal solution. The Trophane station is closer to the port and the Gülhane station is close to the main tourist monuments.

Only use official taxis (yellow) and make sure that the driver activates the taximeter to avoid unpleasant surprises.
