The Gatún Lake is located between the two sets of locks that make up the Panama Canal. The lake was created between 1907 and 1913 when the locks were built. The lake is at an altitude of 25 to 27 meters above sea level. The nature reserves around the lake are home to hundreds of animal species, reptiles and many species of birds.

Where is locate the Gatún Lake

Gatún lake is a short stopover that only serves to disembark passengers on an excursion and wait for permission to pass through the locks. Passengers on an excursion will usually join the boat back at the port of Colon. The ship will anchored and the you will reach the shore by tender boats.
