Bridgetown is the capital of Barbados. This island, which was previously a British territory, gained independence in 1966. You can visit the remains of the sugar cane plantations and rum distilleries. Barbados is also known for its countless beaches.

Where is locate the Port of Bridgetown

The ships dock at the cruise terminal located about 1.5 km from the centre of the city. There is a tourist kiosk.

Travelling around the port of Bridgetown

It’s easy to walk to the centre of the city. A wooden promenade runs along the shore and is lined with plants and flowers. Taxi drivers are very aggressive at the port to recruit customers.

Driving is on the left.

The Princess Alice Bus Terminal is two blocks from the harbour behind the Pellican Village Shopping Centre. You need to have the exact amount, because the driver does not hand over the change.

You can take a taxi to take a tour of the island. Negotiate the price well before you leave and make sure you agree on the currency used.

Chattel Village

Located in Holetown, this colourful set of houses lined with beautiful gardens serve as shops.

Landmarks

Parliament House

Parliament House is located in the centre of Bridgetown and is recognizable by its turret.

George Washington’s House

This UNESCO heritage site has been restored. It is the only place outside the United States that the first American President, George Washington, visited.

Nature

This national park is the former home of a wealthy plantation owner. In addition to the remains of the house, you can see beautiful gardens and a splendid view of the area.

Located in St Joseph’s. You will see several varieties of plants and trees as well as monkeys and birds.

Museums

This museum is housed in a former military prison in St Ann’s Garison. It presents exhibitions on civil and military history and works of art.

Beaches

Brandon’s Beach

Located near Mount Gay Rum Distillery just minutes from the harbour.

Brownes Beach

Located near the city and stretches for several kilometers. However, there is very little shade on this beach.

Activities

Located near the port and offers guided tours that allow you to discover the process of making rum. Tours, including cocktails or a meal, are also available

Banks Brewery Brewery takes you on guided tours of the world of beer. The brewery is located outside the city towards the airport.

You will visit this cave by small tram and admire this natural formation.

Located at St Philip, 25 minutes from Bridgetown. This house was built around 1660 and is furnished with antiques. Its garden has a large number of plants and flowers as well as machinery that was used on the plantation.

A pirate-themed cruise that allows you to admire the west coast of the island, bathe and snorkel. Lunch is included.

  • The typical architecture of the buildings in the centre of the city is worth a short walk. A walking tour of Bridgetown and its attractions is an interesting way to experience this city.
