The port of Belize City located on the coast of Belize a little south of Mexico. This country is a proud protector of ecology. Nearly 20% of its territory, mostly covered by forests, is protected. Large reefs are also present along its coast, making it a popular spot for divers. The country also has several Mayan sites.

Where is locate the Port de Belize City

Ships anchor off Belize and tender boats carry passengers to the dock. When your ship approaches or leaves Belize, you will notice that it zigzags around the protected coral reefs.

Historical sites

Altun Ha

This site is located an hour from the port. In the tombs, jewels and jade were found, including the jade head, 15 centimeters high, of the King of the Sun.

Lamanai

This archaeological site is in the middle of the forest. You will see several ruins, but also mounds that hide other monuments not yet restored. Get mosquito repellent for this visit. To get to the site, the excursion combines a boat ride in the nearby rivers where you can observe the flora and fauna.

Xunantunich

This historic site is located near the border with Guatemala. It is home to the highest Mayan structure in Belize.

Nature

Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary

This protected park allows the observation of different species of birds.

Community Baboon Sanctuary

This sanctuary created by the local population is home to black howler monkeys.

Museums

This former prison built in 1857 is now a museum displaying exhibitions about the history of the city and the Mayans in addition to Mayan pottery.

This house was the home of the governors of Belize and the center of the administration. The museum now features art exhibitions and cultural events.

Maritime museum

Presents Belize’s maritime history by displaying maps, model boats and paintings.

Family activities

Belize Zoo

Located near the city, this zoo has more than 125 animals.
