The Alta cruise port is located in the far north of Norway in the Finnmark region. Alta is situated along the Alta River and the banks of the Altafjord, the town is famous for its stunning natural surroundings, including the nearby Northern Lights and spectacular wilderness areas that attract visitors year-round.

Alta is renowned for its prehistoric rock carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back over 6,000 years. These ancient petroglyphs provide insight into the lives of the region’s earliest inhabitants. Where is located the Port of Alta Cruise Terminal

The Alta Cruise Port is located near the airport in the northeast of the city. It will take you about 50 minutes to reach the city on foot, but there is not much to see. Shuttles to the city are usually available. Alternatively, you can walk 10 minutes and take a bus (No. 42, 43, 45 or 110) that get to the city center in about 20 minutes.

Landmarks

Northern Lights Cathedral (Nordlyskatedralen)

This church in the shape of a metal spiral represents an aurora borealis. In its basement, an exhibition showcases how the Northern Lights are part of Alta’s history.

Museums

Alta Museum

Rock carvings are on display in the museum. It traces the history of Alta from the Stone Age to the present day. Temporary exhibitions are also presented.

Hjwmmeluft World Heritage Rock Art Centre

There are trails near the coast behind the Alta museum. The path to the east has old engravings from 5000 to 7000 years old. They were painted in the 1970s. On the east side, you will also find old engravings and some more recent ones dating from 2000 to 4000 years ago. On this side the engravings are not painted.
