If Europe is calling you in 2026, Holland America Line has just announced the extension of its European season, with an additional six weeks of sailing aboard the Nieuw Statendam – and a promise: unforgettable journeys between Mediterranean sun, majestic fjords and skies dancing with the Northern Lights.

An autumn full of exploration

Four new cruises are now open for booking, all departing from (or arriving) from Rotterdam, the company’s historic port. This extension of the season is aimed at travellers looking for authentic experiences, rooted in the culture and history of Europe, but also for those who dream of a rare celestial spectacle: the Northern Lights.

Arctic and Northern Lights Cruise

On 7 November 2026, the Nieuw Statendam will set sail for a 14-day cruise beyond the Arctic Circle, in partnership with The HISTORY Channel.

Stops include Ålesund, Trondheim, Tromsø — nicknamed the “Capital of the Arctic” — as well as an overnight stay in Alta, recognized worldwide as one of the best places for aurora watching. After a stop in the Lofoten Islands, the ship will set sail for Åndalsnes, Bergen and Lerwick (Scotland), before returning to Rotterdam.

And for those who don’t want to miss any of the show: the staff even offers a night wake-up service in case the northern lights appear.

Heading for the Mediterranean and its treasures

On 21 November, another 14-day adventure will take passengers to discover the Mediterranean and Atlantic Treasures, with stops in Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar. One of the strong points? An extended stopover in Lisbon, with the possibility of visiting the Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery, both of which are UNESCO listed.

This cruise also marks a first in almost 10 years: a round-trip trip to the Mediterranean from Rotterdam.

Two voyages to end the season

A shorter itinerary of 7 days in Norway including the Nordfjord for a short getaway that can easily be combined with a land portion to prolong the fun, and a 15-day cultural crossing to Fort Lauderdale including England and Normandy, ideal for history buffs.
