In 2027, Holland America Line and Pan Am are joining forces to revive the golden age of travel with an exceptional 28-day cruise through the Caribbean, Mexico, and Latin America. Named the Pan Am 100th Anniversary Legendary Voyage, this itinerary is inspired by the historic routes of Pan American Airways’ legendary Clippers—the seaplanes that, in the 1930s and 1940s, connected islands and continents.
A Tribute to Two Travel Icons
Departing from Miami, the historic birthplace of Pan Am, the Zuiderdam will follow the legendary Great Circle Route, the American airline’s original itinerary. This voyage will call at 18 ports throughout the Caribbean basin, several of which were featured on the original Clipper routes.
Passengers will be able to immerse themselves in the refined atmosphere of the 1930s thanks to period-inspired décor, retro-inspired menus, and themed programs tracing the evolution of modern travel.
Like the Clipper passengers of yesteryear, cruisers will experience a journey where each stop is a cultural immersion: Nassau and its aviation roots, San Juan and its historical vibrancy, Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Port of Spain, a hub of Caribbean music and cultural fusion.
“The Clippers were true ‘ships of the air’,” recalls Craig Carter, president of Pan American World Airways. “On board, passengers enjoyed gourmet meals on fine china and socialized in luxurious lounges. With Holland America, we are recreating this experience at sea, one hundred years after Pan Am’s first flight.”
For one month, the Zuiderdam will call at legendary ports rarely combined on a single itinerary:
| Region | Ports of Call |
|---|---|
| Bahamas | Nassau, Half Moon Cay |
| Caribbean | Ocho Rios, Santo Domingo, San Juan, Charlotte Amalie, St. John’s, Castries, Port of Spain |
| Lesser Antilles and South America | Willemstad, Oranjestad, Santa Marta, Cartagena |
| Central America and Mexico | Colon, Puerto Limon, Belize City, Cozumel, Progreso |
| Departure and Return | Miami, Florida |
Nearly half of these ports of call are among Pan Am’s original destinations, giving this cruise a unique historical dimension.
A Celebration of American Heritage
This voyage is part of the 250th anniversary celebrations of the United States, which Holland America Line will commemorate with a series of partnerships with iconic American brands.
