Glide past ancient icebergs. Sleep beneath a sky of southern stars. With HX Expeditions, the ultimate polar adventure is within reach.
This Is Not Just a Cruise—It’s an Expedition
There are cruises that take you to Antarctica — and then there are experiences that place you directly on its ice, beneath its sky, and in the heart of its silence.
With HX Expeditions, you can now truly immerse yourself in the Antarctic wilderness: kayak among floating giants and camp overnight on the frozen continent itself. These are no longer rare opportunities reserved for the few. Starting in October 2025, HX will offer more guests than ever the chance to explore the White Continent in the most authentic way possible.
Camping in Antarctica: The Amundsen Night Experience
Named after legendary polar explorer Roald Amundsen, this overnight experience allows you to sleep on the Antarctic coast, fully exposed to the elements, with nothing but snow, stars, and silence around you.
Here’s what it looks like:
- After dinner, guests head ashore to help set up camp with the expedition team.
- You’ll sleep in either a weather-resistant bivvy bag under the open sky or in a high-performance two-person expedition tent.
- If the landing site allows, guests may also explore nearby terrain before bedding down for the night.
- In the morning, you’re welcomed back aboard with a hot breakfast and a special certificate commemorating your night as a true Antarctic explorer.
The full experience lasts up to 10 hours, including setup and pickup. Participation is tightly limited to preserve the environment and intimacy of the outing. All gear is IAATO-compliant, tested for polar conditions, and leaves no trace behind.

Kayaking Among Icebergs: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Perspective
HX offers two ways to experience Antarctica by kayak:
The Discovery Kayaks—a world first—are custom-designed in collaboration with NRS (USA) and Escape Watersports (UK) for solo travellers. They require no prior experience. Glide silently and independently while safety boats monitor your progress.
The Sea Explorer Kayaks are expedition grade, designed for slicing through dynamic conditions with the guidance of HX’s expert crew.
Expanded program for the 2025/26 Season
HX’s expanded polar program is making kayaking and camping more accessible than ever:
- 188% increase in kayaking capacity across the HX fleet
- Camping capacity doubled, allowing up to 60 guests per night
- Solo travellers welcome—no partner required for any activity
- Two new camping options:
- Bivvy Bag : lightweight, low-impact, under-the-stars experience
- Two-Person Tent: classic expedition setup for shared comfort
- New booking system: activities now handled onboard by the Expedition Team, replacing the previous lottery with a first-come, first-served approach
- Seven activity types now offered: two kayaking styles, two camping styles, snowshoeing, polar plunge, and extended hikes (subject to conditions)
All activities follow strict environmental protocols as set by IAATO, ensuring minimal impact and maximum respect for Antarctica’s fragile ecosystem.
HX Expeditions is changing the way we think about polar cruising. You’re not just going to Antarctica—you’re living it.
So if your travel dreams include a little frost on your boots and a lot of awe in your soul, this is your call to adventure.
