Here are the cruise news that caught our attention for the week of April 3 to 9, 2022.

Carnival

  • Travelers are back. Carnival announced that it had the best week of bookings in its history during the week of March 28 to April 3.
  • Mardi Gras has been named the best new cruise ship of 2021 by the members of Cruise.com.
  • Carnival has announced that the service fee (tips) will increase to $14.50 per day for regular cabins and $16.50 per day for suites.

Celebrity

  • Celebrity has taken ownership of Celebrity Beyond, the third in the Edge series. Kate McCue is the captain of this new ship. The Beyond maiden voyage will depart from Southampton on 27 April 2022 and will offer Mediterranean journeys until October.

Holland America

  • Holland America’s Volendam will be used for the next 3 months to welcome Ukrainian refugees. 1,500 refugees will be housed and fed on board the ship that will be positioned in Rotterdam. Trips on the Volendam have been canceled until July 3rd.
  • The Koningsdam is the first ship to return to Canadian waters. The vessel visited Victoria Harbour and Vancouver on April 9 and 10, 2022. The Koningsdam will make Vancouver its home port for the Alaska cruise season.

Oceania

  • Oceania has announced that it will introduce 14 solo cabins on four of its ships this fall. This is part of the OceaniaNext program that will roll out on the Regatta, Nautica, Insignia and Sirena. The Vista already offers these cabins.

Royal Caribbean

  • Construction of Royal Caribbean’s new ship, the Utopia of the Seas, began on April 5, 2022. The ship will be the first Oasis-class vessel powered by liquefied natural gas. The ship will set sail in the fall of 2023.
  • The Spectrum of the Seas arrives in Singapore from where it will start its sailing season on April 11, 2022. The Spectrum of the Seas will make Singapore its home port until April 2023. 3- and 4-day sea cruises will be offered to Singapore residents.

Seabourn

  • The Seabourn Encore will be positioned in the Mediterranean for the summer and will visit Greece, Turkey, Croatia and Israel. Seabourn is offering onboard credits between $800 and $1,600 until May 31 as well as a 10% discount for cruises paid in full by June 1, 2022.

Silversea

  • Silversea held the official naming ceremony of the Silver Dawn on March 31 just prior to its departure for its inaugural cruise on April 1, 2022. The ship will sail the Mediterranean until November 2022 and then be positioned in the Caribbean and Central America this autumn.

P&O

  • The Pacific Explorer will be back in Australia on April 18, 2022, and will make Sydney its home port for the season.
